Next Best Thing

Since the holidays started there has been so many new releases, holiday gifties, and sale items....How is a girl supposed to choose what to blog on. Darn my indecisive nature!! while I decide on what to blog on for tomorrow here is the Blogger's challenge I saw earlier last week."My Three things in SL I can't live without". It wasn't hard to pick them.

1) My Shape and Star Tattoos; Yes this counts as one on the list.
I created my shape back in 2006 when I joined SL. It's roughly been the same, aside from some minor tweaking. My shape has grown to be a bit wider since my Noob days. I suffered from the too skinny syndrome at one point in time. I may not look exactly like Bells in RL, but some would say it's pretty close. After all, Bells works out way more than I do, and doesn't have any need for food.

My star tattoo is one that I picked up along my Noob travels. It also inspired the design for my RL tattoo. I feel that no matter what skin, outfit or look I'm trying to pull off these star tattoos can really help set me apart from others. I rarely wear gloves because of this; although I can be persuaded to from time to time. I also tend to get really annoyed with designers who make "glove" layers necessary for tops.

2) Diamond Bee Necklace from PC
I have a huge LOVE for PC and the one thing I wear almost daily is this Bee necklace. It sparkles, is gold and I love that it's not on the traditional necklace attachment spot but rather located on the spine. I usually can wear this necklace with any SL look and it works, or at least I tell myself it does.  I would really be sad if one day this necklace was no longer in my inventory.

3) My Partner in Crime- Frankie Palliard
I've tried to live my SL without him, but in the end it's really not all that fun. This January will be our Three year Friend/anniversary, or friend-a-vesary.  He has stuck by my side during all aspect of my SL life and has been there for me during RL challenges. We just celebrated our first RL holidays as a couple and it was the best Christmas/New Year I had in a long time. Frankie always encourages and provides love and support in everything I attempt. I wouldn't have stuck around in SL for as long as I have if it were not for him. I love him more than anything in my SL Life and he is the most irreplaceable aspect of SL to me.

The Denim skirt has three different options for accessorizing as a Belt, Belt With Skirt Prim, or skirt prim (shown above).  I love that 5th and Oxford has released these outfits with variety in mind. Multiple prim options, the ability to change between layers; means these items are great if you like to mix n match for a unique look.  My personal Favorite out of the set is the Rebel Halter.

Uprising

**As a Hispanic woman this post is important to me, not only because Dolores Huerta is a strong Hispanic role model; but because the women in my family have worked in fields during difficult economical times. As a child my grandmother would tell me stories about working under the hot Texas sun, the conditions were not the best and often she was exposed to chemicals that were more than likely harmful to her health. I feel a sense of pride that the women in my family were strong figures that were willing to sacrifice, work hard and provide for their children.

Dolores Huerta :"Si se puede" (Yes, it can be done)

Co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America and Civil rights leader for Hispanic women. Recipient of the, Ellenor Roosevelt Human Rights Award. Dolores has received numerous awards and even has schools named in her honor.

Dolores has lead strikes and successfully negotiated a contract between the UFWOC and Schenley Wine Company. This was the first instance in which farm workers were able to successfully bargain with a large argicuartiual corporation. Dolores realized the connection between labor rights and human rights and has fought to improve these conditions. She was a lobbyist for the 1960 bill which allowed individuals to take driving tests in their native language. In her "non-violent protests", Dolores has been arrested and even assaulted by police forces. After an incident in 1998, in which Dolores was severely beaten and injured, the San Francisco Police Department changed it's policies when dealing with crowd control.

Dolores is still actively supporting labor and civil rights causes, she travels to universities where she shares her experiences with students inspiring others to peruse equality and social justice.

"Among poor people, there's not any question about women being strong-even stronger than men- they work in the fields right along with the men. When your survival is at stake, you don't have these questions about yourself like middle-class women do." - Dolores Huerta

Her Diamonds

Glitterati has released "The Diamond Room, the ultimate spot for your Jewelry and sparkly photos. "The Diamond Room" has 15 poses, ranging from cute to sexy; and it's only 71 prims which is perfect when rezzing on small plots of land. I found the menu to be very easy to navigate, with just one click and the pose menu appears and allows for a quick and easy change.

Curio had a special holiday treat for group members, a new skin from the holiday line "Elf". Gala pulled out all the stops for this skin. Dimples, full luscious lips and a tiny button nose all perfectly compliment one another. I really enjoy the tummy area, because of the two little moles on the left side that bring a little character to this skin. I also like the area around the belly button it has a "toned, but still soft" feel. The eyes are also a key feature of the skin I enjoy. mainly due to the little highlights and texture around the tear duct. There is also a shimmery eyeshadow that is remisent of fairy dust.

And finally the Lingerie, I wanted something light and sheer that would sparkly but also provide some coverage. Lingerie Boutique was able to answer the call with "Sexy Floral Lingerie in Nearly Nude".

Oh what the hell she says
I just can't win for losing
And she lays back down
Man there's so many times
I don't know what I'm doin
Like I don't know now

By the light of the moon
She rubs her eyes
Says it's funny how the night
Can make you blind
I can just imagine
And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
But if she feels bad then i do too
So I let her be- Rob Thomas

Such Great Heights

"Mishaps in Fashion", is now showcasing "Iconic women in History". "Iconic Women in History" is going to be a series of posts that will highlight The Strong, The Independent, The Visionary woman that have changed or challenged our society. These women are true role models. I only hope my tiny posts will serve them justice in some way. Now Let's get on to Today's post.............

Amelia Earheart the "Lady of the Air"
The first woman to win the Distinguished Flying cross. The first Woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. She inspired women to follow their dreams and pursue careers in the aviation field. She worked to support her desire to fly and paid for her aviation lessons by holding jobs such as a photographer, truck driver, and stenographer.

Perhaps the most well known and most talked about fact regarding Amelia is the mystery surrounding her disappearance on her last flight. Although, there are many theories as to what occurred on her last flight the official theory is that due to a lack of gas or technical malfunction her plane went down somewhere in the pacific. Amelia, was a true visionary and a leader in the field of aviation for women. She didn't allow her gender to become an obstacle and will always be respected and revered for following her dreams.

"Please know that I am aware of the hazards. I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be a challenge to others." A. Earheart

An Ancient Egyptian Love Poem

O my beautiful one,
I wish I were part of your affairs, like a wife.
With your hand in mine your love would be returned.
I implore my heart:
"If my true love stays away tonight,
I shall be like someone already in the grave."
Are you not my health and my life?
How joyful is your good health
for the heart that seeks you!

throughout time their love still grew strong.....
